Choose the Right Sleeve Type

Casual outdoor use or layering. Less sun protection on the arms — pair with sunscreen. Good for moderate UV environments.

Best of both worlds. Roll sleeves up in heat, down in sun. Great for all-day outdoor activities with changing conditions.

Best for: Travel, Long hikes, Variable weather

Fit Tips by Body Area

Torso Length

Performance outdoor shirts run longer than casual shirts to stay tucked during activity. Look for 'extended torso' if you need coverage over a harness or pack hip belt.

Shoulder Seam

A proper shoulder seam sits exactly at the point of your shoulder. If it drops off the shoulder, it's too large. If it pulls, it's too small.

Chest / Underarm

Reach your arms overhead — the shirt should not ride up excessively. A 4-way stretch fabric gives the most freedom of movement.

Collar

For fishing and hiking, a collar provides extra neck protection. For running, a crewneck is typical. Hooded shirts eliminate the need for a hat entirely.

Women's Hint

Women often find men's L = women's XL in outdoor brands, but proportions won't match. Always use women's-specific sizing for proper fit.

Men's Hint

If you're between sizes, size up for UPF shirts — the weave needs to be taut to maintain its protection rating. A too-loose shirt may let more UV through.
